Tsehai Publishers has recently released a CD of poetry dedicated to Nelson Mandela to celebrate the legendary figure and his contributions to Africa. An anti-apartheid revolutionary and a philanthropist, Mandela was the first black President of South Africa to be elected in a fully representative democratic election in the country. Focusing on dismantling the legacy of apartheid in South Africa, Mandela worked to dispel inequality and institutionalized racism while fostering racial equality.
While president, he created, with the help of several political parties and the cabinet, a new constitution; garnering such a deep respect within South Africa, he was often described as “the father of the nation.” A Poet’s Guide to Mandeland, compiled and read by Wole Soyinka, Nobel Laureate and President’s Marymount Professor in Residence at Loyola Marymount University, gives tribute to this great man and his accomplishments. With poems by Wole Soyinka, Dennis Brutus, and John Matshikiza, this CD should be owned by every lover of poetry, admirers of Mandela, and friends of Africa.
