REVIEWS | "When I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at 20 years old, the everyday battle with cancer became my “new normal.” Treatments were lonely because I couldn’t identify with the elderly patients being treated alongside me. I openly shared my fight on social media to express what I was going through in hopes to find others who could relate. Reading these stories and realizing I wasn’t alone would’ve made a difference."–Harry Hudson, recording artist, songwriter, musician, and cancer survivor "I have watched this project develop and flower as Brian and his team have journeyed to young people throughout America to capture their stories and their expert guidance for future generations that will have to face down their own mortality. And what makes it all the more poignant is that some of them have not survived and so Our New Normal is their immortal legacy."–Simon Davies, executive director, Teen Cancer America "For teens diagnosed with cancer, everyday struggles and priorities are inherently different than that of other teenagers. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have to battle so hard just to see another day. […] Our New Normal provides a community for those teens. These stories let them know they’re not alone. It gives them hope, advice, and new perspectives."–Kendall Jenner, supermodel and television personality |
AUTHOR | After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in economics and the UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, Brian Braff worked as a criminal lawyer in Los Angeles for twenty years. He then moved into more creative pursuits as a lyricist, producer, and photographer. Eventually, he found his passion in creating large projects to benefit others. First was Age Looks at Aging, in which older Americans were given cameras and support to document their experience of aging. Finally, Brian founded and directs High School Yearbook, a support group for teens and young adults with cancer, from which this book was created. |
